The documentary film Warhol–Vijande: More than Guns, Knives and Crosses is a project of the Col·lecció Suñol Soler.
Warhol–Vijande: More than Guns, Knives and Crosses is a compelling and insightful documentary directed by Sebastián Galán that brings to light the life and influence of Fernando Vijande, a pivotal yet unjustly forgotten Spanish art dealer, and his relationship with Andy Warhol, one of the most iconic figures in contemporary art. The film focuses on Warhol’s historic 1983 visit to Madrid, where he presented the exhibition Pistols, Knives, Crosses at the Galería Vijande—an event that forged a significant cultural bridge between the bustling Movida madrileña scene and the vibrant art world of New York.
Featuring interviews and testimonies from those who experienced these moments firsthand—with singer Alaska serving as the documentary’s guiding voice—and filmed across Madrid, Barcelona, Pittsburgh and New York, the film reconstructs not only that landmark artistic event but also the human story behind it. By weaving together personal relationships, cultural context, and historical footage, the documentary offers a rich, nuanced portrait of how art, friendship, and creative exchange reshaped Spain’s cultural landscape in the early 1980s.
Original idea from the Suñol Soler Collection.
