The artist Pedro Torres is the recipient of a residency grant at the Foundation.
Pedro Torres (Glória de Dourados, 1982) is the artist in residence at the Fundació Miró Mallorca as part of the residency programme of the Spanish Ministry of Culture at Tabacalera – Centro de Arte, an initiative that supports artistic production and research through residencies across the country.
Pedro Torres‘s artistic practice revolves around the notion of time, leading him to engage with fundamental questions of contemporary reality through visually compelling conceptual projects developed using a wide range of media and techniques. Reflections on the representation and perception of the multiple folds of time are intertwined with a strong interest in the possibilities of image, language, and materiality. Taking scientific facts and theories as the starting point for extended artistic research, Torres moves away from purely notional or technical interpretations and intuitively brings together theory and poetry to address the audience and their individual experience.
He has held solo exhibitions and participated in group shows and biennials in Spain, France, Italy, Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Turkey, and China, and has received numerous awards and grants, including the Tabacalera Madrid / Spanish Ministry of Culture residency and production grant, actually taking place at the Miró Mallorca Foundation, the Ankaria Artist Book Award from the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome, the Fundación “la Caixa” Production Grant, the Visual Arts Grant from Fundación Botín, Barcelona Crea, and, on multiple occasions, research grants from the Department of Culture of the Government of Catalonia. His work is held in the collections of MACBA, INELCOM, Fundación Botín, Blueproject Foundation, olorVISUAL Collection, Colección Untitled, and other private collections. Through this residency, he is developing his project at the Fundació Miró Mallorca until …, within a framework of contemporary research and production.
