Visit to the Ecotrò exhibition with Laia Ventayol and viewing of the film Legend of the Waterflowers (KO Hee-young, 2022) - Korean (original version) with English subtitles
In this session, we will first we will have the privilege of conversing with the artist Laia Ventayol and visiting her exhibition Ecotrò. Laia will talk about her work, which reflects on the relationship between humans and the environment, and how her pieces address themes of sustainability, resilience, and the importance of ancestral practices in a contemporary context. This conversation will be a unique opportunity to explore the connections between the film and her own artistic research, reflecting on how the arts can help raise awareness of global ecological challenges.
After the visit, we will screen the film Legend of the Waterflowers (2022), which explores the lives of the haenyeo women of the southern coast of Korea. These women, through traditional diving, keep alive one of the most representative ancestral practices of Korean culture. With a realistic and deep perspective, the film addresses themes such as the connection to nature, physical and emotional resilience in the face of aging, and the preservation of traditions amidst social and environmental changes.
