Susy Gómez. “Breaking the Spell”
As part of the "Nit de l'Art 2024", next Saturday, September 21, at noon, the auditorium of the Fundació Miró Mallorca will host the screening of "Breaking the Spell", a video performance created by artist Susy Gómez in Felanitx in August 2023.
The performance by artist Susy Gómez, titled “Breaking the Spell”, proposes a systemic movement—a ritual healing exercise that initiates a dialogue between contemporary art and popular culture.
This work presents and offers an experience of collective repair, providing an alternative vision of a distorted image that has been perpetuated through legend and generations, involving the relationship between water, the source of life and prosperity, and a woman unjustly cursed for her beauty.
The action takes place through the flow of water and is carried out in Sa Font, an emblematic monumental complex in Felanitx, where three heritage spaces are connected: the church, the esplanade (replà), the monumental staircase from the 17th century, and the hollow of the Santa Margarita fountain, from where the canals originate and water is supplied to the entire population.
The protagonists of the performance are women and girls from Felanitx, accompanied by Susy Gómez and the sound creation of Joana Gomila.
