The III International Joan Miró Symposium vindicates the living memory of the Sert Workshop on its 70th anniversary.
As part of the celebration of the III International Joan Miró Symposium held on May 15 and 16, the Fundació Miró Mallorca dedicated one of the most emotional moments of the conference to paying tribute to the people and families who, 70 years ago, were linked to Joan Miró and to the inauguration of the Taller Sert. This commemoration, integrated into the events of the 70th anniversary of this emblematic space, served to vindicate the living memory of all those people who contributed to preserving and transmitting Miró’s legacy to the present day.
The event was attended by descendants and witnesses of that historic moment, including members of the Juncosa family, as well as prominent figures of Mallorcan culture such as artist Maria del Mar Bonet. Personalities connected to Mallorca’s cultural, political, and artistic world also attended, including:
- The Mayor of Palma, Mr. Ramon Aguiló (1979–1991), and the Councillor for Culture, Mr. Joan Nadal, with whom the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation in Mallorca was established.
- Photographer Mr. Joan Ramon Bonet, hired by Miró to photograph artworks and the studio.
- The descendants of Casa Pomar Flores (Fine Arts materials store) on Sant Miquel Street, where Joan Miró regularly bought tools and paints, and where the stretcher frames for his paintings were assembled. The artist developed a close relationship of trust and friendship with this family.
- Mr. Joan Oliver Maneu; gallery owner and art dealer, who maintained a certain relationship with Joan Miró, especially through Mr. Pere Serra.
- Ms. Niní Quetclas; co-owner of the Pelaires Gallery during the years when Miró exhibited there and brought his friends.
- Mr. Àngel Juncosa; co-owner together with Gerard Matas and Ferran Cano of the Quatre Gats Gallery, where Miró exhibited in 1974 and 1976.
This tribute became one of the central events of the symposium, a meeting that brought together researchers, specialists and figures linked to Miró’s universe to delve deeper into his work, his thought and the relationship with the architect Josep Lluís Sert. With this initiative, the Foundation reinforces its role as a space for memory, research and cultural dissemination, connecting past and present through the legacy of Joan Miró.
