Pilar Juncosa, named Illustrious Daughter of Palma

The Palma City Council has awarded the distinction of Filla Il.lustre de Palma to the Mallorcan patron Pilar Juncosa, wife of Joan Miró, within the framework of the municipal plenary session held on the occasion of the Festa de l’Estendard. The recognition highlights her work and cultural legacy, closely linked to the artistic and heritage projection of the city. The award was collected on her behalf by her grandson, Joan Punyet Miró, a visual artist, in an institutional ceremony at the Palma City Council plenary session. With this award, Palma pays tribute to a key figure in cultural patronage on the island.

Pilar Juncosa was not only Joan Miró’s romantic partner and the axis of family life, but she was also the one who managed and resolved day-to-day problems. She was the balance and essential support that Miró needed to be able to fully dedicate himself to his work. For the painter who pursues the expression of infinity, who seeks to approach the impossible, it represents a solid and essential bond with the earth, the necessary link with reality. As Miró’s biographer, Jacques Dupin, explains:
