The Foundation takes part in the inauguration of the new Syngrou Cultural Centre in Methoni, Greece

Posted on 3 July 2026

From 2 to 7 July, Fundació Miró Mallorca will take part in an international cultural programme held in the Greek cities of Kalamata, Pylos and Methoni, an initiative that strengthens cultural ties between Mallorca and Greece.

The Foundation’s participation forms part of the events organised to mark the inauguration of the new Syngrou Cultural Centre in Methoni, which will host the exhibition Prometheus Betrayed, dedicated to photographer Óscar Pipkin.

The project originated at Fundació Miró Mallorca, which organised the first exhibition devoted to Pipkin’s work in 2025. For that exhibition, the photographs were printed in the Foundation’s Printmaking Workshops, initiating a collaboration that now continues with this new presentation in Greece.

As part of the same programme, Fundació Miró Mallorca will present the lecture “Miró and Fire: When Miró Painted with Fire”, devoted to the final creative period of Joan Miró in Mallorca. The lecture will explore the importance of the Sert Studio, Son Boter and the Printmaking Workshops as key spaces for understanding the artist’s creative process and his constant drive for experimentation.

The project also includes the publication of the book Prometheus Betrayed, featuring texts by Maria Katsilieri, which accompanies the exhibition. As with the exhibition presented in Mallorca, the photographs reproduced in the publication were printed in the Printmaking Workshops of Fundació Miró Mallorca. The publication has been supported by Palma City Council, highlighting the Foundation’s Printmaking Workshops as a centre for contemporary artistic production, true to the spirit of research and experimentation promoted by Joan Miró.

The Foundation’s participation in this project strengthens the international profile of its work and consolidates the collaborative relationships established with Greek cultural institutions, while giving continuity to an initiative that originated in Mallorca and was developed through the Foundation’s Printmaking Workshops.
