The art of silence II

Meditation sessions surrounded by the works of Miró and the light in the Moneo building

The first Saturday of the month as of 6 October until 1 December 2018 from 9 to 9:45
Workshops and courses

We invite you to a meditation practice in the spaces of the Fundació, surrounded by the works of Miró and the light in the Moneo building. The sessions will take place in the Espai Estrella in front of the three canvases produced in the Son Boter Studio in 1973. These works represent for Miró the reinterpretation of the idea of landscape reduced to its minimal expression and the return to its origins, to the land, the sky, and the horizons that marked its beginnings as a painter.

What does it mean listening to silence?

Miró cherished silence. Together with music and poetry, contemplation, reflection and silence helped him achieve the “state of spirit” needed to confront the artwork; a prolonged time span that allows him to shed all that is not essential and take to the extreme the process of reduction that characterizes his creative stage in Mallorca. The artist talks about the state of trance he puts himself into at the beginning of his creative journey: “My work springs in a natural way, like bird singing or Mozart’s music, apparently effortless, but resulting from a long meditation and inner work.”

In order to achieve that, Miró needs a proper atmosphere that he finds in reading, daily walks, the observation of nature, an unexpected noise or an object’s immobility, events that spark a whole world of possibilities in the artist’s soul. Through his senses, even with his eyes shut, Miró is able to unveil a hidden reality, put it in touch with his own soul and internalize it for a long time until the time comes to reveal it though a simple gesture. In this case, the reduction to the use of the black color and the void of the blank space marking the composition:  “My desire is to attend a maximum intensity with a minimum of means. That is why my painting has gradually become more spare.”

The first part of our practice will consist of gentle movements and stretches and the other half of the practice will be sitting together as we introduce basic breathing and meditation techniques.

Please wear comfortable clothes and you are welcome to bring a small cushion to sit on. Sit pads will be available on site.
