Fundació Miró Mallorca and the Institute of Contemporary Art sign an agreement to promote the dissemination and professionalisation of contemporary art

The agreement reinforces the Fundació’s commitment to establishing partnerships with organisations and professionals in the artistic and cultural sectors while also contributing to strengthening the IAC’s presence in the Balearic Islands and its work in support of the contemporary art professional community.

A framework for cooperation in contemporary art

The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration between the Fundació and the IAC to carry out joint activities aimed at promoting, supporting and disseminating contemporary art, which will be developed through specific agreements. As part of the measures included in the agreement, the Fundació will offer free admission to its centre and exhibitions to IAC members, upon presentation of appropriate identification at the ticket office.

The IAC, for its part, will communicate this benefit to its members through its various communication channels.
The agreement will have an initial term of four years, with the possibility of extending it for an additional period of up to four years by express agreement between the parties.
The agreement also provides for the creation of a joint monitoring, oversight and compliance committee, comprising representatives of the Culture Department of Palma City Council, the Fundació’s management and the President of IAC Illes Balears or a person appointed by the association’s board.

A shared commitment to the professionalisation of the sector

The Institute of Contemporary Art is an independent association of contemporary art professionals working for the benefit of the wider artistic community. Since its establishment in 2004, it has worked to strengthen the institutional network dedicated to contemporary art, defend the rights of professionals and promote the implementation of good practices in museums, art centres and cultural institutions.

Its main areas of activity include the national and international promotion of Spanish contemporary art, the professionalisation of the sector, the promotion of cultural sponsorship and philanthropy, the implementation of good practices, the modernisation of the sector and dialogue with public administrations.

The IAC is also a member of the Contemporary Art Sectorial Platform (Mesa Sectorial del Arte Contemporáneo), a platform bringing together several professional associations in the sector and maintaining dialogue with public administrations on issues including the Good Practices Document, the Artist’s Statute and the internationalisation of contemporary art.

The role of the IAC in the Balearic Islands

The IAC’s territorial delegation in the Balearic Islands brings together professionals from different areas of contemporary art, including artists, gallery owners, curators and cultural managers from both the public and private sectors. The delegation, chaired by Joan Soler Rebassa, helps bring the association’s areas of work to the local context and creates spaces for dialogue and cooperation among the different stakeholders within the contemporary art ecosystem of the Balearic Islands.
