Miró crosses borders: Zurich takes an interest in an educational project born in the Fundació Miró Mallorca

Posted on 21 May 2026

Joan Miró's work and spirit continue to travel beyond any geographical boundary. The Fundació Miró Mallorca has made this possible once again with one of its educational projects, conceived and developed by its pedagogical team—comprising Antònia Huguet and Irene Gayà—which has now aroused the interest of a public school in Zurich.

‘Breakfast with Miró’ is an activity that invites children to delve into the artist’s creative universe through play, imagination and artistic experimentation. This project, conceived in Mallorca with a clear inclusive and open-minded ethos, demonstrates that learning knows no borders or limits.

The interest came from the Primarschule Freiestrasse Zürich, where both Year 2 classes have worked on an exhibition inspired by Joan Miró. The 45 pupils, aged around eight, have explored techniques such as charcoal and acrylic, as well as themes like dreams and the creation of characters with a distinctly Miró-esque aesthetic.

This experience has prompted the Swiss school to take things a step further and propose an online meeting with the Fundació Miró Mallorca, which took place from the Sert Workshop itself. The aim has been to offer the children a direct connection with the artist’s work, history and life and artistic context, led by the education team that brought the project to life in close collaboration with the Art and Research department and its head and Miró expert, Patricia Juncosa.

This initiative exemplifies how arts education, when it is inclusive, creative and rooted in the local community, can transcend borders and connect diverse realities. From Mallorca to Zurich, Miró continues to inspire new generations and reminds us that learning and education are, by definition, universal.
