The personal archives of Joan Miró and Pilar Juncosa participate in the International Archives Day
The personal archive of Joan Miró and Pilar Juncosa, housed at the Pilar i Joan Miró Foundation in Mallorca, is participating in International Archives Day. On June 5th, the Document Digitization Center and the Historical Archive of the University of the Balearic Islands will host an island-wide series of talks dedicated to archival work, with a special focus on personal archives, such as ours. Other participating organizations include the Casa Planas Foundation, the Museum of Mallorca, and the Mallorca Literaria Foundation.
The event aims to be, above all, a space for meeting and listening, designed to provide a better understanding of the work being done on the island by various public and private institutions that safeguard and manage personal archives, and to foster contact and networking among professionals and organizations in the region.
Several archives will briefly share their experiences, projects, and reflections on personal archives in an approachable format, open to both professionals in the field and anyone interested in documentary heritage. Following this, the temporary exhibition Captain Barceló’s Logbook will be presented.
The Fundació will participate in the event with a presentation by Gabriel Noguera, head of the Pilar Juncosa Archive and Library. His presentation will focus on the personal collections of Joan Miró and Pilar Juncosa and the specific challenges of managing them within an institutional context situated at the intersection of archive, library, and museum.
The conference will address the archival history of both collections, their relationship with the museum collection, the personal library and other documentary materials held at the Foundation, as well as the current work of description and contextualization developed jointly with the PAHIB thanks to a grant from the Consell Insular de Mallorca.

Special attention will be given to the personal archive of Pilar Juncosa, a collection of documents that has been little studied until now and is opening new lines of research into cultural networks, spaces of sociability, and everyday practices linked to the Mallorcan artistic and cultural context of the 20th century.
The presentation will also reflect on the potential of personal archives as tools for generating new historical interpretations and for activating research perspectives linked to cultural history, gender studies, and contemporary artistic networks.
The event will take place on Friday, June 5, in the Lecture Hall of the Ramon Llull Building (UIB) from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
