"Satie - Planès" concert, performed by the pianist Alain Planès.

The Miró Mallorca Foundation, in collaboration with the Deià International Music Festival, presents the “Miró and Music Series”.

A great lover and connoisseur of painting, no less erudite in his passion for poetry, Alain Planès enjoys a career in his image: from the beginning he has followed the path of life instead of the siren songs of a glory that demands too many commitments. There is in him a curious mixture of Proust and Wilde.

With the first he shares his relationship with time, deep, expanded, Schubertian. With the second, a certain intellectual dandyism, a form of refined cynicism that, however, does not sacrifice tenderness.

From a mother with an artistic temperament, a painter and music lover, he has inherited and preserved a fervent humility and a disinterestedness of gesture. In the end, this is what creates style: rigor is of little use without grace. This multifaceted sensibility discovered the piano at the age of five, played for the first time with an orchestra three years later and, after the Paris Conservatory, left for the United States in search of a different way of making music: with Pressler, Sebök, Primrose and Starker, whose regular concert partner, Alain Planès, remained for a long time in the US and Europe.

Soloist, chamber musician, accompanist, teacher: all aspects of his art arouse his interest. In addition, he had the opportunity to discover the entire classical and contemporary repertoire by playing it on two pianos with François Michel, a friend of Stravinsky, in whose house Michel had mixed with the great intellectual figures of the time such as Malraux, Deleuze, Cassandre and, later, Miró. When he returned to France a few years later, he became, at the request of Pierre Boulez, solo pianist of the Ensemble Intercontemporain, where he remained until 1981. His exhaustive work with eminent composers such as Boulez, Stockhausen, Ligeti and Berio definitively sealed the eclecticism of his performance and prompted the most important music festivals to seek his presence. Among them, La Roque-d’Anthéron, Montreux, Aix-de-Provence and the prestigious Marlboro Festival, where he has appeared for many years, faithful to his exceptionally close association with Rudolf Serkin.
