The Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca consolidates its position as a cultural, creative and social reference point
This year’s Board of Trustees meeting opened with a particularly significant piece of news: the announcement of His Majesty King Felipe VI’s acceptance to renew his honorary appointment as President of the Foundació.
The 2026 Action Plan thus defines a strategic year for the consolidation of the institution as a cultural, creative and social reference both within and beyond Mallorca. The project builds on the momentum of recent years with a high-calibre artistic programme, expanded collaborations and a firm commitment to activating the gardens and promoting the architectural heritage.
The City Council of Palma has renewed its support for the Foundation, maintaining the municipal contribution of €1,450,000, reaffirming its commitment to the institution’s future and forging alliances to achieve Palma becoming the European Capital of Culture in 2031. Likewise, the contribution of the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Insular Council of Mallorca and the Spanish Ministry of Culture to the budget of the Fundació Miró Mallorca should be mentioned.
Expansion of Joan Miró’s sculpture park in the gardens of the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca
The Fundació will incorporate five new sculptures by the artist, loaned by the Successió Miró, into its gardens. These works will play a decisive role in extending the sculptural route, allowing visitors to discover Miró’s large-scale sculptures set within nature.
This is a step in the trajectory that is intended to make the Fundació’s gardens one of its greatest international attractions. It aims to highlight Miró’s bond with nature and his desire to place it in dialogue with his works.
Exhibitions: Miró at the heart of the narrative
The year 2026 reinforces Joan Miró’s centrality with the exhibition “Rediscovering the Spark”, which, while maintaining the theme of the importance of sparks as triggers for Miró’s creative process, also explores the idea of return, of starting over, and of circularity that permeates his Mallorcan trajectory.
In addition, new temporary exhibitions will be held: in spring we will feature Jean Marie del Moral, Carlos Bunga and Claudio Zulian. And in the autumn programme, which begins in September, we will welcome Isabel Servera, Pedro Torres and Carlos Casas.
Public programmes
For 2026, a programme has been designed that connects Miró with contemporary creation across multiple disciplines: music, film, photography and the performing arts.
Coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the Sert Workshop, the academic programme continues, which will include the 3rd Joan Miró International Symposium and the 1st Contemporary Landscaping Day with international experts such as Sir Peter Edward Murray and Luciano Giubbilei.
Flagstone events such as the St Joan’s Day celebration, the Friends’ Day, guided tours, workshops and family activities are also being maintained.
Talent and Research: Pilar Juncosa Awards 2026
Once again, scholarships and awards are being offered to encourage artistic education, research into Joan Miró and contemporary art, and production in the Graphic Arts Workshops.
A project with a long-term vision
The Action Plan includes structural improvements, particularly at Son Boter, and the implementation of new systems for cataloguing, preservation and conservation of the Collection’s and the Fundacio’s archive.
“We want an open, vibrant and permeable Fundació: a space where citizens, creators and thinkers can reconnect and project Miró into the future.”
Antònia Maria Perelló – Fundació Director
