12 works by Wolf Vostell from our Collection are presented at Can Balaguer

Can Balaguer presents Connexió Vostell, a tour of the work of one of the most representative authors of contemporary art of the 20th century, Wolf Vostell. The exhibition, curated by Magdalena Aguiló Victory, former director of the Foundation, is a tour of the different projects that the German artist developed in Mallorca, especially in the 1990’s. Among the projects, which can be visited in Can Balaguer until 09/29/24, includes the Sara-Jevo 3 Fluxus pianos musical atmosphere/action that took place at the Miró Mallorca Foundation in 1994; as well as the process of creating the portfolio of engravings and lithographs with the same name, the first edition made in the Joan Miró’s Printmaking Workshops after the inauguration of the Foundation.

The exhibition houses some sixty pieces by the German creator, including sculptures, drawings, paintings, photographs and engravings. The publication that will accompany the project is of special interest for the Miró Mallorca Foundation since no exhaustive information has been published about this important event (the catalog that was published at the time includes general interviews with the artist but no specific information about the event appears). During the research process, the curator has compiled a selection of unpublished material from the different projects carried out that represent a contribution to the knowledge of the artist’s career and his connection to Mallorca, unfortunately very little known in the artistic sector.

Wolf Vostell’s work has influenced the proposals of numerous creators belonging to later generations. He was one of the leaders of the fluxus movement and promoter of the term dé-coll/age, as well as the author of happenings, environments, concerts, actions, videos, paintings and sculptures. Regardless of the chosen modality, their productions share criticism of consumer culture and the injustices generated by the dehumanization of contemporary societies.

On the other hand, Can Balaguer will host a series of free activities related to the Connexió Vostell project, which will begin on Thursday, July 11, at 6 p.m., with a guided visit to the exhibition, led by the curator, Magdalena Aguiló.
