The Foundation and the UIB incorporate the personal collections of Joan Miró and Pilar Juncosa into the Historical Archives Platform

The Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca and the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) have established a collaboration agreement to advance the preservation, organization and dissemination of the documentary collections of Joan Miró and Pilar Juncosa.

The project begins with a first phase, lasting twelve months and with a budget of 40,000 euros, which will allow the incorporation of the personal collections of Joan Miró and Pilar Juncosa into the Platform of Historical Archives of the Balearic Islands (PAHIB), managed by the UIB.

The documentary collections of the Foundation include the historical archive, the personal collections of Joan Miró and Pilar Juncosa and the institutional archive of the Foundation, which preserves documentation linked to their activities, exhibitions, collections, workshops and management, as well as various legacies of people related to Miró’s environment. Some of this documentation has not yet been systematically catalogued.

In this first phase, the inventory and identification of the documentary units will be carried out, their description in accordance with ISAD(G) archival standards, the creation of the classification table and the incorporation of the information into the PAHIB AtoM software. The bases for future digitization, preservation and conservation plans will also be defined.

The incorporation into the PAHIB will facilitate the organization and consultation of the collections and will contribute to making available to researchers and citizens documentation of great value for the knowledge of the artistic and personal career of Joan Miró, as well as the cultural environment in which his work was developed.

This project represents a first step in adapting the documentary treatment of the collections to current archival regulations and establishing the bases for their future digitization and online dissemination.
